Wedding Planning Stress – How to Beat it as a Bride in Nairobi

Let’s be very honest here, planning your wedding can be really stressful. There is a lot of pressure since it is meant to be the best day of your life, not to mention the emotions that you are going through as you transition from fiancee to wife, sister to sister-in-law etc. You have to deal with the stress of making these life transitions, changes in your identity while at the same time you are expected to be the happiest you have been. All these factors can result in stress and stress related issues like skin breakouts, weight loss/weight gain, depressive episodes  etc. Wedding planning stress is not pretty for you, so how do we beat the wedding planning blues?

  1. What’s the priority? Figure out early what is super important for you. This will assist you to get back on track in case things get heavy. Having clear priorities assists you to rule out the nice to haves which will allow you to be less stressed. You should also remember that you do not have to do everything. If it can be delegated, please go ahead and do so, it may not be done 100% the way you would have but it will ease the pressure off of you so that you can do what is super important to you.
  2. Communication is key: A lot of wedding planning stress comes from your family members and friends. Remember, you cannot please everyone and it is YOUR wedding. Much as they would want something done a particular way, remember to communicate your desires, be mindful about how you phrase your desires because half of communication is actually how you voice & phrase them.
  3. You cannot control everything: Focusing on the things you can control will allow you not to dwell too much on what you cannot control. For example, you cannot control the weather, worrying about it will not change the fact that if it was meant to rain it will. What you can do is have a plan B of having a wedding dress in Nairobi that can serve you well no matter the weather. You could purchase a wedding accessory like a bolero that will make it easy for you to adapt.
  4. Schedule wedding planning: Scheduling tasks eases the pressure of having to do lots of things at a go. If your wedding is in say 9 months, say that you will work on wedding tasks 3 nights a week for 2 hours. As you get closer to the day this may increase, however the scheduling allows you to have a full life such that the wedding plans do not take over your life.
  5. Make time for self care: This is key for everyone, self care is supposed to be a routine built in your life, not just when you are stressed, tired and burned out. Take the time to go out on a date with yourself, go to the spa for a facial, listen to music, exercise, get a massage or better yet take a bikram yoga class. Your body will thank you, and when you get back to planning, you will give it your all.
