Nailing Your Wedding Guest Look: 2022 Edition

It’s officially wedding season and you have probably been invited to some of your friends’ weddings. Sometimes, dressing up for weddings in Nairobi Kenya can be a huge task. You want to look nice, but not upstage the bride. You’d want to also feel comfortable as you enjoy the festivities that come with the celebration that is the love between your loved ones. In all honesty, it’s a really tough balance. Today, we delve into how to ensure that you hit the sweet spot of comfort and also looking your best.

  1. Respect the dress code: If wedding trends are anything to go by, more and more couples are coming up with dress codes for their nuptials. Ensure that you try as much as possible to stay within the dress code. This will help you look great, respect the couple and so forth. Better yet, it will save you some awkward stares that go a long way in making you feel uncomfortable. We’d love that you have fun in the weddings you go to and dressing the part is the first step to having a great time 🙂
  2. Conservative is best: If you have any doubts at all about what to wear, go with the traditional styles that are acceptable at many weddings. A wedding is not the right place to try out a new trend you saw on Tiktok unless it’s wedding specific. Also remember that the crowd also matters. If you are going to a wedding where the audience could be incredibly conservative, be mindful of their values and dress appropriately.
  3. Absolutely no white please: That goes also for ivory, off-white or any shade that mimics white. Wearing these colours will be interpreted as you upstaging the bride. It’s the bride’s day, you do not want to be the subject of ridicule years later as the person who scandalously wore white much to the chagrin of the wedding guests. It could be your chance to showcase that red dress that you have been keeping in your closet. In other words, play with bold colours, have fun with it!
  4. Simplicity is key: We all know how it feels to be overdressed. For any wedding you need a bit of everything, however it needs to gel well with the wedding venue, the weather,  your personal preferences and most especially your comfort. Say you are attending a garden wedding, it will be very practical and aesthetically pleasing to put on sensible shoes with block heels with a floral dress. If it’s colder, it would be very uncomfortable to wear backless dresses without cover ups etc. Either way, simplicity and practicality goes a long way in helping you enjoy yourself thoroughly at the wedding.

Choosing a wedding outfit need not be a gruesome task. With the above guidelines, you remove the focus from stressing about how you will dress to how much fun you will have at the wedding.  Enjoy your next wedding in advance!
